Why not a covenant?

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I feel compelled to report on a point that was raised at the Advisory Planning Commission meeting and which was missed by both local newspapers.

The Local Trust Committee cannot request a covenant as a condition of rezoning that would affect whether the clinic will be private or public; for-profit or not-for-profit. To reassure the community that the clinic will indeed be run on a public, not-for-profit basis, the health care foundation was asked if it would volunteer to register such a covenant on the title of their property . The answer was “no”. I will leave to the foundation the opportunity to explain why not.

Every resident of this Island is a member of the Foundation. As a member, I, for one, support the registration of such a covenant.

Thanks Jacinthe, there is a report on this discussion in this edition. ~ Ed
